What is streetdance/hip-hop?
Hip hop incorporates a wide range of dance styles including popping, locking and breaking and is primarily choreographed to hip hop music. Hip hop is a challenging genre to master because of the complexity of the choreography and the diversity of styles.
What is commercial jazz dance?
Commercial jazz dance is a fusion of contemporary/lyrical jazz dance and streetdance. This style of dance can incorporate movements that are more fluid than that of hip hop and often includes turns and jumps within the choreography.
What kind of music are the routines choreographed to?
Just Dance routines are choreographed to a wide range of music both old and new but often use popular commercial chart music. If there is a particular track that you would especially like to dance to, please let us know as we are always happy to choreograph to specific music requests.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable dancing and exercising in; lots of Just Dancers tend to wear loose fitting jogging bottoms and t-shirts. Please note: no outdoor shoes are allowed inside the Community Sports Centre studio in Forest Hill. Trainers/dance shoes are allowed inside the studio at the Hertfordshire Sportsvillage.
What are the benefits of taking part in a Just Dance class?
There are many benefits of exercising through dance. Just a few examples include:
- Increasing flexibility
- Keeping fit
- Learning great dance routines
- Improving confidence
Do I need to book to join a Just Dance class?
No, all of Just Dance classes are run on a drop in basis so there's never any need to book in advance. For those who do want to make a bit more of a commitment to the classes, there is also an option to pay on a termly basis. See classes for more details.
When are the classes on?
The classes are run during school term time as follows:
Monday 22nd February – Friday 2nd April 2010
(Easter break)
Monday 19th April - Friday 28th May 2010
(Half term week)
Monday 7th June – Friday 23rd July 2010
(Summer break)
All classes will then recommence in the first week of school term in September.
Are there any workshops held during the school holidays?
Yes, Just Dance regularly holds workshops in various styles of dance as well as acting and musical theatre. See our workshop page for full details of forthcoming workshops in your area.
